First Board Off
DSCN8682.jpg (91817 bytes)

The cabin is constructed with board and batten style construction. It would have been a snap to open up the hive, except for encountering an electrical cable running thru the corner to an outside light. This required some finaggling around the lamp.
The first board came off with a portion of honeycomb, tearing some bridge comb connecting it to the main comb. Sealed honey can be seen in the upper part of the colony, and open cells in the lower part. Some drone-sized brood cells are apparent at the bottom.
