Drone Brood

Examination of the brood revealed one area of capped drone brood still present. Note the larger cells, that also stick out more from the face of the comb.
There were also a few adult drones. The presence of drones and drone brood is another evidence of colony strength. Strong colonies will keep drones all winter in this area of South Carolina, unless there is an unusually cold spell. Weak colonies will usually evict drones about this time.
