Solitary Bee Collecting Pollen from Azalea Anthers

solpolcollector4.jpg (32350 bytes)   This tiny solitary bee may accomplish a bit of pollination, but you notice that the stigma extends out quite a bit farther than the stamens, suggesting that a larger bee or a hummingbird may accomplish pollination more efficiently. Indeed bumblebees, and  carpenter bees are much more frequent visitors. And they can be observed to frequently contact the stigma.

   Can anyone ID this bee?
