In cutover forest land:
Observed pollinators: Mellissodes, a large megachilid bee, Silver spotted skipper,
sulfur butterflies.
Mellissodes bees are the most frequent visitors. In the morning they
move very quickly, wallowing thru the stamens to gather pollen on their bodies, which they
comb into their pollen baskets on their rear legs. The pollen is brilliant orange.. Later,
when the pollen is exhausted, they slow and drink the nectar.
