Photina: A Bee Magnet
After extensive discussion with a number of folks, I've concluded that it is indeed Photina. I was originally put off from this Genus, because it had no red leaves. However it seems to be an early species, and perhaps the red has already turned to green.... Any further help in homing in on the species would be appreciated.
Numerous insects have been observed visiting its flowers, including at least two species of solitary bees, honeybees, syrphid and drone flies, at least two other fly species, wasps, butterflies, and a couple more unidentified insects. A skink was also seen among the flowers. Here are various photo views:
